About Mary Ann Childs DMD
Dr. Mary Ann Childs, DMD
Dr. Childs takes pride in her ability to provide quality dentistry to each and every patient. She is committed and truly enjoys taking care of patients and helping them to achieve and maintain the smile they have dreamed of.
Born and raised in South Carolina, Dr. Mary Ann Childs received a B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina. She practiced pharmacy for two years and then attended the Medical University of South Carolina where she received her doctorate of dental medicine. After graduation, Dr. Childs completed extensive post-graduate study in the leading cosmetic and functional institutes of dentistry in the world. These particular skills that set Dr. Childs apart from most dentists are used in every case to create the aesthetics the patient is seeking and the function that is necessary to provide longevity and overall health to the entire masticatory system. Dr. Childs listens to her patients’ needs from the very first visit. Together they devise a plan to accomplish both long and short term goals that fit each individual, unique case. Dr. Childs delivers the best in general dentistry, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry ranging from TMJ therapy to dental implants. The basis of her dentistry is combining function with beautiful, natural-looking smiles.
Dr. Childs lives in Greenville with her husband Brad and their two adorable girls. While time spent with her family is her top priority outside of dentistry, she also enjoys running, traveling, boating, and educating others on the value of quality dentistry. Dr. Childs is a member of the American Dental Association, South Carolina Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Greenville Dental Society, Piedmont Dental society, Periodontics of Greenville Study Club and Cambridge Who's Who among Executive and Professional Women. Dr. Childs is also a member of the American Equilibration Society, and The Chicago Dental Society. Dr. Childs has also been a guest lecturer for educational outreach programs discussing concepts of complete dentistry.
We are a dental practice devoted to restoring and enhancing the natural beauty of your smile using conservative, state-of-the-art procedures that will result in beautiful, long lasting smile!
What sets Childs Dentistry apart from all the others, is not the general dentistry procedures that go on day to day; it is the time put into each patients case before the hand piece is ever picked up. Dr. Childs training is specific to treating patients from their jaw joints to their teeth to supporting structures around their teeth. Many problems patients have are related to dysfunction in the masticatory system. Dr. Childs discovers these issues with a thorough exam of the jaw joints and a set of detailed diagnostic models. Dr. Childs comes up with treatment plan options. These options range from appliance therapy to full mouth restoration, depending on the case. Every patient in Dr. Child's practice is presented with the option of "fixing the one tooth" (repair dentistry), or "fixing the entire mouth" (complete dentistry). The understanding that Dr. Childs has of how to treat patients based on their needs is what makes her different clinically than others.

Education & Prevention
As a practice, we are true believers that preventive care and education are the keys to optimal dental health. We strive to provide “dental health care” vs. “disease care”. That’s why we focus on thorough exams – checking the overall health of your teeth and gums, performing oral cancer exams, and taking x-rays when necessary. We also know that routine cleanings, flossing, sealants, and fluoride are all helpful in preventing dental disease. Not only are we focused on the beauty of your smile, we’re also concerned about your health. A review of your medical history can help us stay informed of your overall health, any new medications, and any illnesses that may impact your dental health.
Infection control in our office is also very important to us. To protect our patients and ourselves, we strictly maintain sterilization and cross contamination processes using standards recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Training & Expertise
As your dental health professionals, we want you to be confident knowing that we are a team of highly trained and skilled clinicians. We pride ourselves in providing the care you need to keep your smile healthy. To give you the best possible service and results, we are committed to continual education and learning. We attend dental lectures, meetings, and dental conventions to stay informed of new techniques, the latest products, and the newest equipment that a modern dental office can utilize to provide state-of-the-art dental care. Also, being members of various professional dental associations helps us to stay abreast of the changes and recommendations for our profession.
Building a foundation of trust by treating our patients as special individuals is vital to our success. We understand how uneasy some patients may feel about their dental visits, and how we can make a difference in providing a relaxing and positive experience. Our entire team is dedicated to providing you with excellent, personalized care and service to make your visits as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
We thank you for allowing us to take care of your dental needs and look forward to serving you.
